Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship creates new prizes for teams entered in the 2010 tournament

Fort Frances April 27, 2010   To attract more first time teams, the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship has created new prizes for the 2010 tournament. Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship chairman Tom Fry today announced significant changes to the prize board of this year’s championship.  The prize board with 125 teams entered will total $107,500 with the first first place prize amounting to $25,000.

The early bird draw of $1000 for those teams who paid their full registration prior to November 2009 will take place at the rules meeting on Tuesday night July 20.

This year for the first time, “The Rookie” prizes will increase to $3000.  The prize will be awarded to the highest finishing “Rookie” team in the tournament.  A rookie team will be considered as a team in which neither partner has fished in the tournament in the previous three years.  Pam Buttner, director of Angler Relations noted;  “We want to encourage former anglers to come back and fish the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship and we hope this prize will encourage them.”  In addition to the $3000 “Rooky” prize, the team will also have their entry paid into the 2011 tournament.
Additional prizes will be offered up that have not been part of previous years tournaments.   These will not be cash prizes but instead will be merchandise awards.

There will be a prize awarded to the highest placing female pair of anglers.  A minimum of three all-girl teams must be entered for the prize to be awarded.
A prize will be awarded to the highest finishing parent child team.  A minimum of five teams must be entered for the prize to be awarded.

The final new prize will be for a mixed gender adult team noted Pam Buttner.  A minimum of three teams must be entered for the prize to be awarded.
“These are new prize categories” said Tom Fry, “and we hope that it encourages family fishing in this tournament.    We hope that by expanding the prizes for new entries and family teams, that it will attract more entries to the 2010 FFCBC.

The Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship gets underway Sunday July 18 with the Safeway KidPro. Wednesday evening the popular “Parade of Boats” will return and make its way through Fort Frances with the teams entering the Fort Frances Sportsplex to be introduced to the public.

Tournament fishing will take place Thursday, Friday, Saturday July 22,23, 24, 2010 on Rainy Lake.
