International Falls Bass Champion invited to 2006 Tournament

By Bud Edwards

Our field will grow by one to 137 in 2006 chairman Doug Cain announced in a press release explaining a resolution adopted by the board of directors at their first meeting of the New Year.

“Historically we have extended invitations to the winners of six area bass tournaments (Atikokan, Kenora, Morson, Sioux Narrows, Lake Despair and LaBelle’s). The creation of a bass tournament in our sister city International Falls gives us the opportunity to do the same for their 2005 winner” Cain explained.

News of the new tournament appeared December 30th when one of the organizers, Gary Potter, confirmed the good news that they got the green light from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to go ahead with the International Falls Bass Championship this summer.

The two day event is scheduled for August 26 & 27 with a maximum of sixty teams. Entry fee is $500 (U.S.) per team. First place prize money will be $10,000.00. A very unique feature is using both Rainy Lake and the lower Rainy River as tournament waters. Half the field will spend the first day on the lake or river and then switch locations for the second day. Daily weigh-ins will be held at Smokey Bear Park.

Besides fishing, tournament organizers hope to have food concessions, live music, prize drawings, a parade of boats, and possibly even a motorcycle rally.
